On any exchange (KYC there) or on a DEX with a self-custody wallet (no KYC). Minting and redeeming directly with Tether needs a verified account and is aimed at large amounts. The token runs on Tron / Ethereum / BSC (+127).
Do I need KYC to buy USDT?+
Not on the secondary market: USDT can be bought on a DEX without identity verification. Minting it directly with the issuer does require KYC.
Can I buy USDT in the EU?+
Not from a regulated provider. USDT is not authorised under MiCA, so EU-regulated exchanges and brokers may not sell it to EU customers. Holding it is not prohibited, and you can still swap into it on a DEX from your own wallet. Tether has not sought EU authorisation. ESMA's opinion of 8 October 2026 asks EU platforms to wind down remaining client holdings by 8 January 2027.
